Hello, This is the "terms and conditions" as well as Faq page and all the other important mumbo jumbo. I have had numerous requests from people wanting information on whether I could paint their guitar body. I will attempt to answer all the questions I can here.
What I do.
1. I only paint Metalflake or Sparkle Finishes. I will paint over an original factory finish as long as it is not cracked or peeling or in poor shape. Stripping paint will cost extra.
2. I will paint bare wood bodies. Closed pore woods like ALDER or Maple, there is no extra charge. Open pore woods like ASH or MAHOGANY there will be a $55 charge to prime and fill pores and block sand flat.
3. I will paint headstock "faces" only.
4. I will spend 20 minutes fixing small dings and preparing the body to accept a metalflake finish before charging for additional work. So please as accurately describe the guitar bodies condition before shipping.
What I dont do.
5. I "do not" paint neck thru bodies or any body with the neck permanently attached.
6. I "do not" paint necks. (I will paint the headstock face.)
7. I currently "do not" mask off and paint around bindings. (Currently I am only paint black "faux" bindings only).
8. I "do not" remove or re-install any hardware or components from the body.
9. I do not paint over a "second paint job" on a guitar body. It must be stripped off down to the original finish if that is still in good condition. If you send me a body that has been repainted it will cost at least $100 for me to strip it, maybe more.
10.) I don't paint pickguards or pickups. I guess it is possible on a special custom job but there will be a substantial charge for that service.
What I charge extra for.
10. Stripping paint.
11. Fixing cracks.
12. Custom designs that I would not ordinarily do.
13. Additional color schemes. If you have a color scheme that
interests me as a future design there may not be an additional
charge. Please email me.
14. Special color matching.
15. Filling pores on a body with an exceptionally large "open
grain" like ash or mahogany. This will be a very heavy catalyzed
polyester that will be block sanded flat. there is a $75 charge
for this preparation.
16. Any additional work I must do to reshape your body so parts
will fit after refinishing.
17. Oversize bodies like Bass guitars or wild shaped guitars.
email me if you have any questions reguarding this.
18. Painting headstocks. Usually $100 and up
>>> I reserve the right to refuse any job, even after it has been shipped to me. So please as accurately describe the guitar bodies condition before shipping it to me. <<<
Additional notes:
1. Please note that metalflake finish is thick compared to other finishes and some parts may not fit correctly one I paint it. An example would be a rear "countersunk" control plate cover. As the paint builds thickness it covers the edge of the pocket essentially making the hole smaller. The cover plate may no longer fit. It is the customers responsiblility to resize anything that does not fit. Damage to the paint as a result of customers working on the finish or "force fitting parts" during assembly are not my responsibility.
2. Countersunk string ferrules may present a problem. At my
discretion I will enlarge the circumference of the countersink
or they will protrude above the new finish.
3. It is the customers job to "V" out the paint from
the tops of screw holes.
19. I guarantee my workmanship. I only use top materials and properly prepare and professionally carry out all aspects of the refinishing process.
What I cannot guarantee.
21. painting over anything other than a "factory finish"
22. cracks in my paint jobs.that result from hidden cracks in
your guitar body or a previously "cracked finish" that
I paint over. You cannot always see the cracks. Usually once sanded
a body can be wiped with lacquer thinner and the surface dries
quickly but thinner that has seeped into the crack still remains
wet so that you can see them.
23. Any problems in my finish that result from exposure to excessive
heat or cold, rapid temperature changes or exposure to the elements
as extreme humidity or dry weather.
24. Any problems in my finish that result from physical abuse
or misuse of the guitar body. I expect my finishes to be handled
like works of art.
